“But you know, very quickly it was like, you can’t be thinking about that; you gotta think about trying to save your people and be the best leader you can for these people and for God,” he continued. “So I, with all that anxiety underneath, you’re trying to channel all of that fear and that inadequacy and self doubt and overcome that, which is what Moses in this iteration is trying to do.”

Comedy helps people lower their guard and allow “those sweet moments to really penetrate [the heart].” No’Mani explained that audiences will see that “we’re not laughing at these characters” but we are portraying these “characters with the utmost reverence.”
No’Mani shared that, through filming “The Promised Land,” he learned that “when you care, self-doubt will always be your companion.” He encouraged that’s “no reason to stop or halt, or abandon ship. You gotta make friends with the fact that you are not enough, and that’s okay.”
