“Soft paganism” is when people “think that they’re Christian or think that they have more of a Judeo-Christian framework but are yet participating in these practices,” Miles explained. “Even if they never fully deconstruct from the Christian faith, they’ve at least essentially completely cut themselves off from any sort of [effectiveness] in culture because they’re living a double life.”
“They’re hot and cold all at the same time,” he continued. “They’re walking in ignorance or deception or willing rebellion at worst.”

Miles warned that “there’s a temptation that we just always have to find the next thing. We gotta go a little bit further, a little bit further, a little bit further. And we’re chasing this moment.” Miles said that people do this when they’re “not satisfied enough just with intimacy with Christ.”
He continued, “When we’re chasing the new thing as opposed to, as Christians, we’re going back to the source and chasing, really, the old thing—which is the Word of God. It’s easy to fall into that trap and have these these things appear as shiny objects.”
