Blake Treinen Publicly Praises God
After the Dodgers won last year’s World Series in five games, Blake Treinen gave a post-game shoutout to “my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” While celebrating, the married father of four told an on-field reporter, “God is absolutely good…This moment is such a blessing.”
As ChurchLeaders has reported, Treinen clings to his Christian faith throughout the highs and lows of playing professional sports. After the Florida Marlins cut him in 2010, the pitcher received a life-changing Scripture passage from a former chaplain. Since then, Treinen has been writing that Bible reference—Proverbs 3:5-6—next to his autographs.
In 2023, Treinen expressed disappointment when the Dodgers invited the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a group of “queer and trans nuns,” to the team’s annual LGBTQ+ Pride Night. The pitcher, who doesn’t use social media, asked friend Sean Feucht, a worship leader in Southern California, to share a statement for him.

Many performances by the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are “blasphemous, and their work only displays hate and mockery of Catholics and the Christian faith,” said Treinen. His faith will “always come first,” he said, adding that “God cannot be mocked.”
The Dodgers disinvited but then reinvited the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence to its 2023 Pride event. Treinen’s teammate, All-Star pitcher Clayton Kershaw, also said he disagreed with the group’s messaging. In response, Kershaw—who’s retiring at the end of this season—planned a Christian Faith and Family Day at Dodgers Stadium.
