Award-winning actor Kevin Costner, 70, is set to host the ABC holiday special, “Kevin Costner Presents: The First Christmas.” He assured viewers the special would cover the “real story” behind the holiday season.

“Maybe you’re a believer, maybe you’re a cynic,” Costner told People, “or maybe—hopefully—you’re just curious to find out the real story.”

As an actor, director, and producer, Costner is known for his work on “Dances with Wolves,” “Field of Dreams,” and “Yellowstone.” The actor was raised in California in a Baptist home.
“Kevin Costner hosts a special exploring the extraordinary journey of Mary and Joseph as they navigate hardships, trials, and triumphs surrounding Jesus Christ’s birth, offering an inspiring way to experience the true meaning of Christmas,” described TVInsider.
The two-hour special, offered on ABC, Disney+, and Hulu, is set to tell the story of Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus.
“Journey back with me, Kevin Costner, for the story of the first Christmas like you’ve never seen it before,” said the actor in the promotional video.
The special is based on the biblical account in the Gospel of Luke, specifically Luke 2.
“It’s a story I think we all think we know,” Costner told People. “I think maybe some of us know a lot, maybe you know just a little, maybe you’re a believer, maybe you’re a cynic or maybe—hopefully—you’re just curious to find out the real story that’s behind the tradition.”
Costner spoke about his holiday traditions, which bring him and his extended family great comfort. However, Costner doesn’t buy into “non-negotiable” traditions.
“You actually hope that you’re home,” Costner told People. “I have a professional life that sometimes takes me away, but I rarely have been. So, the familiarity with what we do is comforting.”
