ABC’s video has gathered 1.2 million views as of this writing, with hundreds commenting. Some agreed with the ban, noting how “the 67 thing is literally out of control” and “annoying.”
“My mom is a teacher,” shared one person. “Don’t let a math answer be 67 or have to turn to page 6 & then 7 or 67…she can’t stand it lol.”
“The teens did nothing wrong!” another said. “They just appreciate a Super Prime number.”
“Free publicity and advertisement removed because people are being annoyed,” someone else said while questioning the restaurant’s decision. “That’s what I call a dumb business plan.”
While In-N-Out Removes ’67,’ Dictionary.com Chose It as the 2025 Word of the Year
In an effort to capture pivotal moments in language and culture, Dictionary.com creates a time capsule of sorts each year. The term “67 (pronounced ‘six-seven’)” was chosen as the 2025 Word of the Year.
“While the term is largely nonsensical, some argue it means ‘so-so,’ or ‘maybe this, maybe that,’ especially when paired with a hand gesture where both palms face up and move alternately up and down,” the official definition reads. “Because of its murky and shifting usage, it’s an example of brainrot slang and is intended to be nonsensical and playfully absurd.”
“If you’re the parent of a school-aged child, you might be feeling a familiar vexation at the sight of these two formerly innocuous numerals,” explains Dictionary.com. “If you’re a member of Gen Alpha, however, maybe you’re smirking at the thought of adults once again struggling to make sense of your notoriously slippery slang.”
Online searches for “67” have risen significantly since the summer of 2025. “Since June, those searches have increased more than sixfold, and so far the surge shows no signs of stopping,” according to Dictionary.com.
Teachers, parents, and ministry leaders everywhere have been brainstorming and sharing ideas on how to curb the trend or intentionally use it as a cultural connection.
