California-based fast-food restaurant In-N-Out Burger is making headlines, but not for its burgers, fries, or even shakes. The restaurant chain is removing the number “67” from its order sequence due to the disruption caused by the “6-7” viral trend.

“The 6-7 thing is hilarious, pure inanity, will eventually burn out, and In-N-Out should just embrace it while it’s here, if for nothing else the publicity,” commented one customer.

In-N-Out Retires ’67’ After Teens ‘Swarm’ the Restaurant

It’s a common practice that has become so instinctive. Individuals and families enter a restaurant, place an order, and pay. Then, they wait patiently until the number on their receipt is called—for them to pick up their food. But, due to the viral “6-7” craze, teens have been rushing to the In-N-Out counter to capture and celebrate when the number “67” is called.

The continued disruption prompted In-N-Out to officially remove “67” from its ticket order sequence last month, according to People. Other chains, such as Wendy’s and Pizza Hut, embraced the trend, offering a “67-cent Frosty deal” and “67-cent wings,” respectively.

While it’s unclear where the “6-7” trend came from, teens often smirk, knowing that the term doesn’t really mean anything. And that’s why it’s become so popular. Parents, teachers, and youth group leaders have been on the outside of a generational inside joke.

Youth pastors and leaders have written lessons, curricula, and discussion questions geared toward embracing the “6-7” trend rather than attempting to stop or ban it. For example, kids compete to find Bible verses that contain a “6:7” reference and are meaningful.

In-N-Out executives weren’t as quick to embrace the current trend.

The fast-food giant made the news for its approach to COVID-19 protocols. In 2023, In-N-Out officially banned employees from wearing masks, citing a priority on customer service. Employees with a “valid medical note” could be exempt.

“Our goal is to continue to provide save and customer-centric Store and Support environments that balance two things that In-N-Out is known for—exceptional customer service and unmatched standards for health, safety, and quality,” according to a company memo circulated at the time.

“Fast food chain In-N-Out is retiring the number 6-7 from its ticket system following disruptions from teens and children swarming the restaurant to film employees announcing the order number,” reports ABC News.
