Hannah Harper Continues To Impress on ‘American Idol’

Hannah Harper, a fan favorite on “American Idol” Season 24, impressed the judges back in January, when she auditioned with her original song “String Cheese.” The 25-year-old stay-at-home mother wrote it to describe her “ministry” of leading her three boys in the “ways of the Lord,” she explained.

Harper said she wrote the song while struggling with postpartum depression after the birth of her youngest child. “All I wanted was to be a mom, and I couldn’t do it,” she recalled about a particularly challenging day. “I was praying that the Lord would calm my spirit”—and he did. “The Lord reminded me of my purpose here on earth as my baby crawled into my lap, wanting me to open his snack,” Harper said.

“Well, that’s just about the most relatable song I’ve ever heard,” said an emotional Carrie Underwood about Harper’s performance. In 2019, Underwood revealed that she had experienced postpartum depression.
