Before changing its name to LIFE Outreach International, Robison’s ministry was known as the James Robison Evangelistic Association, a ministry former Gateway Church founder and convicted sex offender Robert Morris worked for in the 1980s. According to Robison’s ministry, Morris served as a morning supervisor in the call center and oversaw daily administrative tasks, which did not include public speaking.

In a statement released after Morris’ sexual abuse of a minor was made public, Robison admitted that he was aware of Morris’ past “moral failure” but said that he “had no idea it was a crime involving a child.”

Mike Huckabee, U.S. ambassador to Israel, mourned Robison’s death by sharing how influential the Robison was in his life.

“I worked for James Robison in the 70’s as Dir of Comms. He & wife Betty were huge influences in my life,” Huckabee posted. “My middle son’s middle name is ‘James’ after him. His death hits hard. He mentored me in so many ways. Remembering James Robison.”
