Geographically, the areas with the fastest-growing YouVersion usage are Southern Asia and Central Africa. Compared to 2020, app users in 2021 had Bible-engagement increases of 69% in Pakistan and 49% in the Congo.
YouVersion, available for free with no advertising, is available in 2,640 Bible versions and in 1,761 languages. Easy access to God’s Word has been the catalyst for the app from its inception. Gruenewald recalls struggling to “consistently read the Bible, even though I desired to.”
The idea for the YouVersion app formed as he waited in an airport line. Until then, Gruenewald says, he “couldn’t quite find the interface” for regular Scripture engagement” that fit with…the busyness and the travel, and the way my life was at the time.”
