Brakner describes growing up in a legalistic Christian culture that viewed Planned Parenthood as an “evil place.” Yet as a 19-year-old Baylor University student, she ended up at one of those clinics, pregnant and desperate. The church would’ve been the “last place” she would’ve turned, she admits.
The post-Roe church must be “open hearts and open arms,” says Brakner, adding, “The church’s response matters.” She describes the strength and resilience of young parents, noting, “This is not just a baby issue.” Like Pastor Chandler, she emphasizes, “God is giving us the greatest opportunity.”
