Former Megachurch Elder Arrested for Torture, Murder of Adoptive Daughter

The Rock Church invites volunteers to pursue different ministry opportunities which for some may include the ministerial pathway to become an elder or deacon. Leticia was ordained as an elder at another church under the Assemblies of God denomination. That prior elder ordination was transferred to the Rock in January 2022. Ordained elders at the Rock Church help with various ministry tasks, but, as volunteers, they have a limited scope.

Leticia is not a pastor at the Rock Church. The Rock Church recognizes various categories of ministerial leadership and they are differentiated by “office” and “function.” The function of “Pastor” at the Rock Church is designated for ministry leaders that work on staff at the Rock Church and that have been deployed in a pastoral role. Leticia has never held the function of Pastor at the Rock Church.

Although some churches utilize ordained elders to manage and oversee the church, the Rock Church has not adopted that philosophy. At the Rock Church, ordained elders that are not on staff, which Leticia was not, serve as volunteers and are not responsible for church governance and/or operations, and do not have any leadership or other authority.

In regard to McCormack’s role at the Rock School of Ministry, a church spokesperson said, “Leticia was a volunteer with our Rock School of Ministry and helped with ministry coordination, but this was not a paid position and she did not have any leadership or other authority.”

In response to a request for comment, Torriana Florey said, “I reported many times they abused my daughters. Her name is AARABELLA LYNN Sambrano. I’m working on setting aside the adoption.”

The sheriff’s department issued the following request:

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Unit at (858) 285-6330. After hours, call the Sheriff’s non-emergency line at (858) 565-5200.  You can remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
