In support of Provorov, someone tweets: “Good for him. More Christians should follow his example when they have the chance.” Another comments: “I hope Provy realizes that the only people who will be angry at him for this are insufferable sports bloggers and the very online rainbow mafia most of whom aren’t even fans of hockey.”

Some people posted photos of Provorov’s girlfriend, wondering if he adheres to his faith’s ban on premarital sex. One writes: “I would be more concerned about his allegiance to the Russian Orthodox Church, which has become the ISIS branch of Christianity.”
