Joe Rigney Resigns as President of Bethlehem Seminary Over Disagreements About Christian Nationalism, Believer’s Baptism

As Rigney departs from Bethlehem College and Seminary, he is likely to find partners who share his vision for Christian nationalism.

In addition to his Ph.D., Rigney holds master’s degrees from both Bethlehem Seminary and New Saint Andrews College in Moscow, Idaho. Notably, New Saint Andrews was birthed by Christ Church, which is pastored by Douglas Wilson. 

An advocate for infant baptism and self-described paleo-Confederate, Wilson has also expressed support for Christian nationalism. His publishing house, Canon Press, published the book “The Case for Christian Nationalism” by Stephen Wolfe last year.

Rigney has made public appearances alongside Wilson, including in a controversial 2021 video in which the two discussed the so-called “sin of empathy.”

As the Bethlehem College and Seminary announcement bid Rigney farewell, the school offered him a blessing from Numbers 6:24-26: “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”
