In the comments, people said they are praying for Coach Prime, wishing him well, and hoping he prioritizes his health. Several people urged him to seek a second opinion and look into limb-salvage options before doing something as drastic as amputation.

One commenter called Sanders’ video “irresponsible,” saying it might lead to “more premature and needless amputations.” That person asked, “What message does that send the African-American community that is at a 3x higher rate of amputation than Caucasians?”

According to the Amputee Coalition, Black Americans are four times more likely than white Americans to experience amputation for any reason. And they’re almost two times more likely than white Americans to experience diabetes-related amputations.
