Another gift was a new cross the church has recently mounted on its wall after it was crafted by one of Jones’ co-workers.
Still, until the charges occurred, apprehension remained.
At recent gatherings outside worship, such as a choir rehearsal and a meeting, he continued to try to reassure members when they asked, “Pastor, did you hear something?”
Now, he said, they can express their thanks that their fears have subsided and they can return to raising their weekly offerings before a new cross.
“It is currently mounted right now on the wall, but we’re going to pick it up on Sunday and turn it over and get all the members to sign the cross,” he said, “so they can remember that God took a bad situation and he has turned it around for the good of the church.”
