A Rich Beginning for Lachuné Boyd
Boyd grew up as a pastor’s kid in the low country of South Carolina. Inside the walls of the small Black gospel church, she first experienced her taste for music. She then went on to study music at North Greenville University.
In a recent Facebook post, Boyd shared a video of her singing “Use Somebody” by Kings of Leon. “I’ve always admired alternative rock in my youth days. One band that really stuck with me to my adult years is @Kings Of Leon,” shared Boyd.
“As a teenager I thought this song was about soppy love. But the lyrics means a lot more.” She continued, “It’s about someone who realized that he needs others. And though the modern life often rejects this notion, this individual realized self-sufficiency is insufficient in itself. And as scary as it may sound, to live this human experience to the fullest you must recognize that this life beckons us to be more.”
As a music teacher, she coaches all sorts of musicians—from beginners to advanced singers—to help guide them in growing as artists art but also practicing vocal health. And, there’s no limit to the genre of music Boyd will teach—Gospel, Pop, R&B/Soul, and Music Theater. Her students appreciate how she helps them establish musical goals and build set lists or repertoires for singing engagements.
Boyd went on to serve as an Artist of Residence in Fort Worth and later released “Sing Hallelujah!”—her first recording project. Currently, she’s coaching for Shine by Carey Lewis, an intensive training program for future performers.
