For decades, spending went up at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary while enrollment plummeted, causing the school to overspend by millions in 19 of the last 21 years.

A report released by the board of SWBTS has revealed that former president Adam Greenway “engaged in a pattern of spending that…did not reflect proper stewardship of seminary resources.”

Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary confirmed with Baptist Press today (Oct. 27) that the entity has initiated layoffs a week after announcing steps to rectify a financial environment that could “quickly escalate to a crisis.”
