Perkins pleaded guilty in September. If the judge had applied the maximum sentences, Perkins could have faced up to 40 years behind bars.
During Perkins’ sentencing hearing, prosecutors read from testimony of the victim’s father, who said, “I know my son will never be the same from the hell Austin has put him through.”

According to Coosa Valley News, Perkins’ attorney said that a psychosexual evaluation of Perkins revealed that he was a survivor of childhood sexual abuse. Perkins’ attorney further argued that Perkins has a “treatable condition,” asking the judge to prescribe treatment.
