This past spring Johnny Hunt filed suit against the Southern Baptist Convention’s Executive Committee and Guidepost Solutions, claiming they had ruined his life by revealing his misconduct.

Bob Stine, former president of the Minnesota-Wisconsin Baptist Convention, will be required to answer questions in court in September after police in Madison, Wisconsin, recommended he be charged with sexual assault.

The SBC’s Abuse Reform Implementation Task Force released an update Thursday indicating that the “ministry check” website will launch with a more restrictive definition of “credibly accused” than originally announced.

After months of criticism and pressure, the Abuse Reform Implementation Task Force (ARITF) of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) has indicated it may back away from partnering with Guidepost Solutions.

After years of delay, Southern Baptists passed a series of reforms aimed at addressing abuse in the denomination. The plan for reforms, however, did not address who would pay for them over the long haul. 

On Friday, SBC President Bart Barber took to Twitter to respond to criticism regarding the latest developments in the process to reform the denomination in light of its clergy sex abuse crisis. 

Guidepost Solutions is the same firm the Executive Committee hired to investigate their own handling of sexual abuse allegations, the result of which was a bombshell report that fueled widespread support for reform.

In an open letter to the Credentials Committee, leadership of Hiland Park Baptist Church indicated that they would fight for their place in the SBC—by legal means if necessary.
