On Jan. 28, Keahbone’s congregation unanimously voted to release a statement of support for his candidacy. “It is our joy to affirm God’s leadership in this decision, and we prayerfully commit to supporting our pastor in this endeavor,” stated the members of Lawton First Baptist.
Since Keahbone arrived at that church in 2020, attendance has doubled to more than 600 worshipers per week. Baptisms have increased from four to more than 50 per year. Last fall, the congregation planted Hope Church in partnership with the SBC’s North American Mission Board. Lawton First Baptist contributes 6% of undesignated receipts to the SBC’s Cooperative Program, according to the Baptist Messenger.
Last week, North Carolina Pastor Clint Pressley became the first announced nominee for the SBC presidency. Voting delegates known as messengers will select the denomination’s next president at the annual meeting in June.
