Brian Houston: ‘I Am Not My Father’

Brian Houston has expressed sadness for how his father hurt Sengstock and any other victims. “We probably will never know the extent of his pedophilia,” he said of his father. “He was obviously a serial pedophile.” Houston added, “But I am not my father. I did not commit this offense.”

Following his acquittal last August, Houston posted, “Finally I was vindicated by an In-depth judgment which compellingly pulled apart the prosecution’s arguments one by one.” He also railed against recent documentaries about Hillsong, saying producers “have lied, twisted facts, and confused timelines.”

As the international megachurch faced one scandal after another in recent years, Houston said he “was under immense pressure and emotional strain.” He used that to explain a 2022 DUI arrest in Southern California. Houston pleaded guilty in that case and is serving three years of probation.

Last month, following a questionable post on X (formerly Twitter), Houston said his account had been hacked. He cited a “deliberate attempt to embarrass and discredit me.”

Houston resigned as global senior pastor of Hillsong in March 2022. Last December, he announced he was planning to start an online ministry and church in 2024, calling it a “year of redemption.”
