Cathy also challenged moms to “fight the legalistic approach to being a mother.” Moms everywhere need to extend the same grace they offer to their kids to themselves as well.
Mothers of all ages and experiences were encouraged to refrain from comparing themselves to other moms—especially on social media. “Fix your eyes on Jesus the author and finisher—and abide in his love,” she said. “And give your pride-filled ego a timeout.”
Cathe explained the many ways the church walks alongside moms, from children’s and youth ministry to women’s ministry to provide a growing and healthy community for each person.
“Thank you, thank you, thank you for having children,” she said. “So many people are choosing to not have kids. Because it’s hard work, right? Don’t be that selfish individual.”

Greg and Cathe Laurie Lost a Son Nearly 16 Years Ago
In 2008, Christopher Laurie (33) lost his life in a tragic car accident on his way to work at Harvest Christian Fellowship. His parents, Greg and Cathe, were leading the church and chose to be open about the incident, their grief, and how God was vital to their healing.
In fact, Greg, Cathe, and their family were at church just days after the accident. They shared their desire to be with their church family.
“When I heard the news that our son had died, I went into a state of shock. I collapsed on the ground. I couldn’t stand. I couldn’t believe it was true,” Greg said in a recent social media post remembering the loss of his son. “I thought, ‘This is a dream. It’s a nightmare. And I’m going to wake up from it. I know I will.’ But I didn’t.”
Cathe recalled, “He literally just slumped onto the floor. He just collapsed.” She continued, “I felt devastated myself, but I was so concerned by all the people that were surrounding me that I thought, ‘Look at my husband. What’s happening?’”
“I knelt down in front of Greg and I just grabbed his face and said, ‘Greg, we’re going to be okay. It’s going to be okay. We’ll be all right,’” Cathe said.
“We have experienced the comfort that only God can give,” the pastor shared.
Since Christopher’s death, Greg and Cathe continue to be a part of the lives of Christopher’s family—his wife Brittany and daughters Stella and Lucy. Greg even had the honor of baptizing his granddaughters.
