“He was injured, and he was hurt. He was nervous, and very very scared,” said David Lloyd. “He was begging me to find someone to get in there and help him, and I did all I could but I couldn’t locate anybody.”

The missionary couple and Montis were trapped in the house when a second wave of gang members arrived. Davy got off the phone to deal with the situation, and the three perished when shooting erupted. They died around 9:00 p.m., and gang members reportedly set Davy and Montis on fire. “We all are devastated,” said Missions in Haiti.

Montis, a Haitian who worked for Missions in Haiti for 20 years, leaves behind two children, a 2-year-old and a 6-year-old.

Cassidy Anderson has been posting updates on behalf of the Baker family on Baker’s social media accounts. “Transport has been completely secured for Natalie and Davy’s remains to come home!” she said in an update Tuesday morning. “There will be no release of information regarding specific timeline, airline, or airports being used to ensure the highest level of security.”

“Media will not be permitted to attend the flight touchdown to protect the privacy of the family in a very emotional and vulnerable time,” she added. “President Trump reached out to the family last night to express his condolences, and spoke to them for close to 10 minutes, and the family is deeply appreciative. Thank you to all who have been earnestly praying!”

In a separate post about his conversation with Trump, Baker said the former president was “so kind and down to earth. He mentioned how sorry he was that this evil happened to our kids and how beautiful their devotion was to their calling and to the people of Haiti.”

Baker said Trump wanted to bring about justice for Davy and Natalie and that the missionary couple “looked like models…it meant a lot to us to know he took time out to recognize Davy and Natalie. God Bless you Mr. President!”

Other leaders who have offered their condolences include former Vice President Mike Pence and Samaritan’s Purse and Billy Graham Evangelistic Association President Franklin Graham.

A GoFundMe account set up to raise $25,000 for the couple’s funeral expenses has raised over $52,000 as of this writing. Anderson has warned there are only two valid GoFundMe accounts, one set up by Jeremie Bridges and another set up by Chris Slinkard CPA and Dirk Deaton. Any others are scams.
