In a May 26 news conference, Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders confirmed that eight of the storm-related casualties occurred in her state. She also praised the “great humanity” of citizens who were coming together to help one another with recovery efforts.
“There is nothing that makes me prouder to be the governor of our state than moments like this when we see our people really show up and take care of one another,” Huckabee Sanders posted on May 28.
In the United States, May and June typically see the most tornado activity. Experts say this season is shaping up to be the most active since 2017. Earlier this month, a tornado ripped the steeple off a Pennsylvania church in the middle of a worship service. No one was seriously injured.
