The final reason Barber gave as to why Christians fail to bear with one another is because they are weary and beaten down. “This room is full of tired, discouraged servants of God,” he said.
Barber validated the difficulties church leaders face in their roles but nevertheless challenged his listeners to believe that God works miracles and that he can change the hearts of difficult people. “If we didn’t believe that God can change hearts, what are we doing?” he asked. “And if we do believe that God can change hearts, why do we give up on people?”
Unity glorifies God, Barber said, explaining that he was emphasizing this point because he cares about the glory that unity brings to Jesus. “May God give us the strength to do it, and to do it together,” he concluded.
