“Although his employment is ending, we are devoted to still caring for Kemtal and his family,” Swicegood added. “To be clear, this decision regarding Kemtal had nothing to do with the departure of Robert Morris nor related to those circumstances. We are praying for God’s grace and love to be with Kemtal and his family during this time.”

In June, Morris resigned as senior pastor of the church in disgrace after allegations came to light that he committed child sex abuse in the 1980s. Glasgow was the pastor who preached the weekend after Morris’s accuser, Cindy Clemeshire, went public with her story.
Since then, Morris’s son and daughter-in-law, James and Bridgette, have resigned from their positions at the church. James had been slated to succeed his father as senior pastor in 2025.
Earlier this month, Gateway Church parted ways with founding elder Steve Dulin, who served as the church’s Executive Pastor of Kingdom Business Leaders, stating that the church decided to “go in a different direction.”
Gateway Church has announced that leadership hired a law firm to conduct an independent investigation into Morris’s past.
The church has also launched a formal search for a new senior pastor. In the meantime, Max Lucado has assumed the role of interim teaching pastor at the church. Joakim Lundqvist, who is the pastor and international ambassador of Word of Life Church in Uppsala, Sweden, “will be taking on a more pastoral role with the staff.”
