As he continued, Davies spoke about Gimli the dwarf, the character he portrayed in Peter Jackson’s blockbuster movie adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings.”
“I mean, if you think of Gimli from ‘The Lord of the Rings,’” he said, “In some ways Gimli is the most human of all of us, right? He’s got all of the things that we would aspire to be: bravery, courage, loyalty, friendship, protectiveness, fearlessness. But he’s also got our hostility, our aggression, and our xenophobia.”
These characters, he explained, help and inspire us to recognize the changes we need to make in our lives. “Characters that change and minds that can encounter experience and process it give us a deeper understanding into those changes,” Davies said.
The award-winning actor hopes that “Scrooge: A Christmas Carol” will inspire listeners to remember that Christmas is a time of “joy,” “hope,” and “love.” Davies encouraged listeners to “choose hope over despair and choose love over dislike or hatred.”
