Sapp said people have come to his church “to try to cause problems, issues, challenges, and again, my children…they are afraid.” He doesn’t read comments online, but his children do.
“I’m their only parent,” said Sapp. “I’m a widower. They’re afraid for my safety. So now we’ve had to update and increase security” and all “because of the vitriol and the anger that people have shown.”

Sapp also described his different sources of income and said that at his previous church in Michigan, where he pastored for 16 years, he gave a minimum of $30,000 per month to the church for nine of those years. When he left to pastor his current church in Fort Worth, Texas, Sapp left his previous church with a new pastor and six figures in the bank. “I’m not trying to take advantage of people,” he said.
