For several years, Hughes had been filling out notecards with encouraging Scriptures, placing them where she could see them often. One common theme she wrote about was God seeing her.

After being blessed through Samaritan’s Purse, Hughes said, “How can you not praise [God]? He’s finally removing the scales from my eyes.” To the group’s volunteers and supporters, she said, “Thank you for making me see God’s people again.”

Samaritan’s Purse Makes People Feel ‘Known and Seen’

Leslie Klein, a member of the disaster response team at Samaritan’s Purse, described giving eight cars to hurricane victims in one day. “It seems so big,” she said of the gifts, “but it’s so small in comparison to the no-strings-attached love that God has for us.”

God saw that Hughes had lost everything, Klein added. “And he was answering through the church and through people who wanted her to know that she wasn’t alone, that she was known and seen.”

Now Hughes is testifying about the goodness of God, who “sees me for who I am, not what the sin makes me feel like.” Despite life’s trials, Hughes said she knows she has a purpose. “I will always glorify God in everything I do,” she said. “Look what he did!”
