“We are deeply grieved for any injury that resulted from this in the lives of individuals and families,” said the statement, signed by RE Danny McDaniel, chairman of the Administrative Committee, and TE Roger Collins, clerk of the Administrative Committee. “Likewise, we are saddened by any disruption this has caused to the peace of the Presbyterian Church in America as well as other Presbyterian and Reformed denominations.”

“Our committee has scheduled a meeting at which time this matter will be discussed. We ask for your prayers as we consider this and other items before us,” the statement continued. “May our Savior bless you all as you seek to be faithful to the Scriptures, true to the Reformed faith, and obedient to the Great Commission.”

In his apology on byFaith, Chapell said that his actions “brought unwarranted disrepute upon persons identified in the screenshot. For this wrongdoing I repent to my Lord and I apologize to the individuals, their families, and the church I serve.”

“I have begun, and will continue, personally to ask forgiveness from those I harmed,” he said. “I also confess the seriousness of these errors and sin.”

“Therefore, at the upcoming called meeting of the Administrative Committee,” Chapell concluded, “I will ask for approval of my retirement as Stated Clerk. I give thanks for my Savior whose provision for sinners such as I is according to his grace rather than my deserving.”

Beneath Chapell’s apology, McDaniel included the following note: “We have received Bryan’s request for retirement which will be acted on at our AC meeting next week along with any appropriate transition plans.”
