Summer football camps are in full swing across the nation, but Coach Prime remains at his estate in Texas due to an illness. The family is keeping the details of the illness quiet for now, but Deion Sanders’ son, Deion Jr., remains by his dad’s side.
“I’m coming back,” assured Sanders.
It’s Unclear When CU Football Head Coach Deion Sanders Will Return to Boulder
Since 2023, Coach Prime has reshaped CU Football—on and off the field. The team is expected to continue on its winning trajectory this coming year. Sanders has also been criticized for how he navigates his faith and football, with the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) censuring him multiple times.
“God has always been my rock and my salvation,” said Sanders. “I’m going to glorify the Lord.”
Now, the head coach is facing another health battle. While specifics haven’t been released to the public, this recent challenge is on a “whole other level” compared to the blood clots he’s suffered in the past.
Deion Sanders Jr. shared a brief update on his dad via YouTube livestream, according to USA Today. Deion Jr. said his dad was “feeling well” but didn’t elaborate on the extent of his illness.
“He’ll tell y’all soon enough what he going through, what he went through,” shared Deion Jr.
CU Football summer camps have already started, but it’s unclear when Sanders will return to Boulder.
“When we get back in Boulder? I don’t know,” Deion Jr. offered. “I’m waiting until my dad leaves. When he leaves, then I’ll go. Until then, I’m gonna sit here with him.”
The family remains by Sanders’ side and is quiet about the details of his health.
“I lost 14 pounds,” Sanders shared with Asante Samuel on the “Say What Needs To Be Said” podcast. “I’m coming back.”
Sanders has transformed CU Football since his first year as head coach in 2023. The team ended the season 4-8 that year but excelled with a 9-3 winning record in 2024. The CU Buffs will play at home in Boulder against Georgia Tech to begin the 2025 season.
