Actor Jonathan Roumie recently offered some reflections on filming the crucifixion scenes for “The Chosen.” Roumie portrays Jesus in the hit series, which is currently filming its sixth season.

Created, written, and directed by Dallas Jenkins, “The Chosen” has continued to generate excitement and garner acclaim. Seasons 3-5 of the show have all had theatrical releases and have grossed more than $140 million worldwide in 55 territories.

The show has also earned multiple awards from MovieGuide, the Gospel Music Association, and K-Love.

“The Chosen” will end with Season 7, and the two final seasons of the show will get theatrical releases. Season 6 centers on the crucifixion of Christ.

Roumie has been candid about how challenging it has been preparing to portray the crucifixion. In a recent Instagram post, he indicated that the schedule for filming is grueling, and the emotional weight is heavy.

In a caption below three images of Roumie standing next to a cross, Roumie wrote, “These photos will likely be the only glimpse of me out of costume / makeup that I’ll be able to share for quite a long time; standing next to the cross on which I have become intimately acquainted these last two weeks.”

“In fact, I probably won’t get to take photos like these again, given the breakneck schedule and continued intensity of the work ahead,” he added.

Roumie continued:

There is yet more suffering to endure, not only as my character, but through my own sacrificial offering as an artist to embody and accept every ounce of pain and discomfort associated with the process of making Christ’s own suffering very real to everyone who not only participates in the production, but to those who witness the finished product. I.e., YOU.
