Former “American Idol” finalist Breanna Nix recently joined the lineup of the “Summer Worship Nights” cruise, a multi-day event headlined by Brandon Lake and Phil Wickham.
Nix, who placed third on the 23rd season of “American Idol,” was a standout for her performances, as well as for being a Christian. Throughout the competition, Nix was vocal about her faith, choosing several Christian songs to sing and speaking candidly about the challenges of being a Christian in the public eye.
At one point in the competition, Nix shared that she had dealt with “hate” on social media because of her faith.
“I had a comment that said, ‘She’s not a Christian anymore,’” Nix told mentor Fantasia. “And it devastated me.”
Nevertheless, Nix and other Christian contestants, including Canaan James Hill and Brian Littrell, received support on the show from judges and viewers.
The season also featured appearances by Christian artists like Brandon Lake and CeCe Winans, as well as Carrie Underwood, the series’ newest judge.
During the competition, Nix forged a personal connection with Lake. After Nix sang Lake’s song “Gratitude,” Jelly Roll, who served as the show’s artist-in-residence, video-called the worship leader, and Lake offered words of encouragement.
Lake and Jelly Roll have appeared alongside each other several times to perform a new version of Lake’s hit song “Hard Fought Hallelujah.”
Other artists featured in the lineup for the “Summer Worship Nights” cruise were CAIN, Terrian, Josiah Queen, Josh Baldwin, Seph Schlueter, David Leonard, Benjamin William Hastings, Jamie MacDonald, and Jordan Colle.
