Also on Sunday (July 13), the White House posted a 90-second video celebrating Trump and his “resilience.” The clip, which featured past and current footage of the president, described him as “the bodyguard of Western civilization.” The caption stated, in part, “The bullet hit—but by the grace of God, he stood up. Bloodied. Unbowed. And he fought harder.”
Franklin Graham Thanks God for Intervening in Butler
In a post to mark the anniversary of the shooting, evangelist Franklin Graham thanked God for saving Trump. “God’s hand intervened,” Graham wrote. “I thank God for sparing [Trump’s] life, and I believe this incident has had a great impact on him.” Graham, president and CEO of Samaritan’s Purse, encouraged Americans to “continue to thank God for saving [Trump]” and to pray for Comperatore’s family.
Online, some commenters encouraged Graham to focus on religion. “Aligning yourself with a political party and candidate runs the risk of damaging your witness for the Gospel,” someone wrote. “The Bible and politics don’t mix. If you’re pointing people to anyone other than Jesus, you’re leading them astray.”

Some Washington officials also used religious imagery to describe the assassination attempt. “The Miracle in Butler occurred one year ago today,” wrote White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller. “God saved our President so that he could save our country. Now more than ever, 250 years after divine providence first blessed this nation, we must stand strong for America and stand strong with President Trump.”
Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD), chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, posted, “One year ago in Butler, PA, evil struck—but it failed. God’s hand was on that field. President Trump’s life was spared and the MAGA movement was preserved for such a time as this. Today, we give thanks for the victory of life over darkness.”
