Texas Judge Gives Robert Morris, Gateway Church 30 Days To Choose Venue for Arbitration

Gateway, Former Pastor Dispute Retirement Funds

After the Tarrant County judge gave Morris and Gateway 30 days to choose a venue, an attorney for the former pastor expressed optimism. “We were heartened today,” said Bill Mateja, “because it seems clear that the judge would like for a Christian arbitration to take place, and he seemed motivated to bring the parties together to have a Christian arbitration with an arbitrator that both sides could agree upon.”

A Gateway attorney who was contacted by the Dallas Morning News did not comment on the judge’s order. In May, a Gateway spokesperson told the newspaper that it was “not obligated under any agreements to pay Robert Morris a penny.”

In August, the embattled church is set to welcome new Senior Pastor Daniel Floyd, who is currently serving in Virginia. Nic Lesmeister will serve as Gateway’s new executive pastor.
