“I thought it was incredible,” Dixon responded, “I love that Jesus just completely took over ‘American Idol’ this year.” Dixon pointed out that he believes a lot of factors played into the emphasis, especially the fact that “American Idol” judge Carrie Underwood is an outspoken Christian.
Dixon said, “I love that Jesus was a mainstay” throughout this past season. He also mentioned Jelly Roll’s presence on the show, saying, “He is just having a life transformation right now, and it’s so fun to watch.”
“He’s very real,” Dixon continued. “It might be too real for some people, but you know what it’s like? It’s really honest, and Jesus is meeting him where he’s at. I just, I love to see it. I think it’s super cool. It was unfolding in front of our eyes on ‘Idol.’”
Speaking of Jelly Roll and Brandon Lake’s collaboration on “Hard Fought Hallelujah,” Dixon shared how he is seeing God open “some really cool doors for Christian music in general, specifically for Brandon. The line between the four walls of the church—Brandon’s been able to go way beyond that, and I love that.”
ChurchLeaders asked Dixon to share about the new music he has been working on. He said:
These last couple years have been amazing. But, man, there have been several times where I’m like, “Man, I’m just, I’m gassed.” I know [that] I need to be out here doing this—juggling career and family and God, and trying to keep the priorities in order of God, family, career has been really difficult for me these last couple years, if I’m honest. And something that I found myself doing more and more of was just resting in the love of God. Like, all right, God, I’ve obviously mishandled this situation, or I feel like I’m just running on fumes right now. And I feel just like that wave of assurance. It’s like, it’s good God loves me, whether I’m on the mountaintop or I’m in the valley or anywhere in between. The Bible actually says we’re more than conquerors because of the the love that we have through Christ Jesus. So that’s the inspiration behind this new [song]. And I kind of write songs for me, and I’m just blown away and thankful that they connect with other people as well. So if you’ve ever felt like you’re running on fumes, this one’s gonna be for you.
