During his performance at Stagecoach in April, Jelly Roll told concertgoers:
For those of y’all who are experiencing my music and my message for the first time tonight, I bring a message of redemption, I bring a message of hope, I bring a message of second chances, I bring a message of love, and I bring a message of belief.
Jelly Roll continued, “I believe in the power of music. I believe it can heal people. I believe it can help people, and I’m here to bring that message tonight.”
Before bringing Lake out on stage to perform “Hard Fought Hallelujah,” Jelly Roll said, “I know that I fall short to the glory of God all the time. I still cuss like a sailor. I still smoke a little smoke and drink a little drink like Eric Church.” He added, “But man, I got a heart for God, y’all. I believe God can change and God can heal.”
Lake defended his collaboration with Jelly Roll during an interview with Carlos on the “K-LOVE Morning Show.”
“I don’t know what Bible somebody’s reading that would hate on a collaboration like this,” Lake said. “If you look at Jesus’ life, look who he spent time with. Even the 12 he called were jacked up—you know.”
