-
Cold water
-
Cranberries
-
Apples
-
Plastic spoons (one per player)
-
Two identical containers (one per team)
-
A kitchen scale
How to Play
-
Prepare the Harvest Tub:
At one end of the room or outdoor play area, fill the large tub with cold water, cranberries, and a few floating apples. -
Form Teams:
Divide the group into teams of four or five children. Give each child a plastic spoon and each team a container for collecting fruit. -
Set the Goal:
Each team has five minutes to collect as many cranberries or apples as possible. The goal? To make their container the heaviest! -
Start the Relay:
When you say “Go!”, one player from each team runs to the tub and uses only the plastic spoon to scoop fruit—no hands allowed. Then they race back to drop the fruit into their team’s container. If a child drops the fruit along the way, they must pick it up using the spoon—not their hands.
-
Keep It Going:
Players take turns running until time is up. Teams must decide whether to go for lighter cranberries (faster but less weight) or heavier apples (more weight but harder to handle). -
Weigh and Celebrate:
At the end of the relay, weigh each team’s container to see whose harvest is heaviest. Celebrate everyone’s teamwork and effort!
