Evangelist Ray Comfort said that he was recently questioned by police after a woman accused him of chasing her down a beach pier when she tried to exit an evangelistic conversation.
The incident occurred at Huntington Beach in Southern California.
“It’s amazing how one woman’s testimony against a man has the potential nowadays to ruin his reputation,” Comfort said in a video recounting the incident.

Comfort is known for his confrontational evangelism style, often leading people through a conversation to have them admit that they are “a lying, thieving, blaspheming, adulterer at heart,” before explaining the grace of Jesus.
Through the years Comfort has made numerous videos of himself interviewing passersby at the beach, on university campuses, and in other public spaces. These confrontational conversations have often led Comfort’s interviewees to consider the message of the Christian faith. One recent conversation, however, took a different turn.
While Comfort said that the woman alleged that Comfort chased her down the pier, video footage of the incident reveals that she walked away calmly, albeit with a frustrated look, and neither Comfort nor anyone from his team followed her.
“After an interview with a young woman, she suddenly returned with three police officers and claimed that I had chased her down the pier,” Comfort recounted in a press release. “It seemed she wanted me arrested.”

Comfort said that he told the officers that he had recorded his interactions with the woman on two cameras. Comfort added, “When the woman heard that, she quickly left.”
