On a special edition of “The Charlie Kirk Show” Monday (Sept. 15), U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance paid tribute to the slain conservative activist and encouraged Americans to honor Kirk’s legacy. He also decried left-wing extremism, calling it a “difficult truth” to address so the country can unite.

During the two-hour show, broadcast from the West Wing of the White House, Vance called Kirk a visionary, a luminary, and a “joyful warrior for our country.” High-profile guests also honored Kirk, the cofounder and executive director of Turning Point USA (TPUSA) who was shot and killed Sept. 10 while speaking at Utah Valley University.

Vance and his guests remembered Kirk, 31, as a courageous cheerleader and brilliant communicator who loved Jesus, his family, and his country. Throughout the podcast, clips played of Kirk debating young people on his previous Turning Point USA tours of college campuses.

VP JD Vance: ‘We Owe Something to Charlie’

While opening Monday’s episode of “The Charlie Kirk Show,” Vice President J.D. Vance said he was “filling in for somebody who cannot be filled in for.” He described Kirk as “the smartest political operative I ever met” and as someone who “devoted himself tirelessly to making our country a better place.”

Vance, who said he wouldn’t be vice president if Kirk hadn’t advocated for him, said it was an honor to escort Kirk’s body to Arizona and to support his widow, Erika Kirk. A memorial service for Charlie Kirk will take place on Sunday, Sept. 21, at State Farm Stadium outside Phoenix.

To honor his friend, Vance said he will strive to be a better husband and father—and to appreciate the family moments that “Charlie is not able to have…anymore.” The vice president also urged listeners to build on Kirk’s legacy so that “the next generation of young people feels confident and courageous to speak their mind and to speak the truth.”

Kirk’s killer also must be brought to justice, Vance said. On Tuesday (Sept. 16), prosecutors announced an aggravated murder charge against suspect Tyler Robinson, 22. They indicated they will seek the death penalty in the case. Investigators also are trying to determine whether other people were involved in the plot to kill Kirk.

Stephen Miller on the Role of ‘Righteous Anger’

White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller was the first guest on Monday’s in memoriam episode of “The Charlie Kirk Show.” He spoke about Kirk’s dedication to “the nitty-gritty of government,” saying the influencer talked about “every executive order, every new regulation, every new policy plan.”

The last message Miller received from Kirk, Miller said, was about needing “an organized strategy to go after the left-wing organizations that are promoting violence in this country.” The deputy chief of staff called it “a vast domestic terror movement,” pledging that the Trump administration would “use every resource” to destroy it “in Charlie’s name.”

Miller also warned Americans against displaying blind rage, saying, “Focused anger, righteous anger directed for a just cause, is one of the most important agents of change in human history.”

Vance assured listeners that the Trump administration won’t stifle “constitutionally protected speech” but will stop “the crazies on the far left” who foment, facilitate, and engage in political violence.
