I have laughed a lot. This darling baby is bringing me lots of joy. And I have laughed at the thought of God seeing the comfort and ease of my life of a month ago and saying with a grin, “Surprise!”
I’m not going to sugar-coat it. This is going to be a difficult road. There will be heartache. There will be tears. But how blessed am I that God decided to surprise me and my dear big-hearted husband and my three kids who can see this situation through spiritual eyes? What a big old surprise for all of us. I’m glad God doesn’t let us settle for the easier way. He prefers to surprise us with something better, something that pulls the rug of comfort out from under us and reminds us to reach up to Him like a baby reaching for her mama.
So, here I am, mothering a sweet little babe, and holding tight to the hand of my Father. What’s next? Only He knows. But I’ll bet it will be surprising.
