Ministry life is not the most comfortable career path, but when you have been called by God, there is nothing like it. As pastors and church leaders, we’ve faced extraordinary challenges. But in the midst of those challenges, God does what he always promised to do—build his church. All he asks of us is that we take care of his people.

Every pastor and church leader wants to partner with God and see their church flourish. Every leader wants to make a lasting impact.

In over 30 years of being a lead pastor, I’ve found that lasting impact comes less from producing great content and more from focusing on building people. Ministry is about people, and biblical leadership is about shepherding.

The key to building a healthy, growing church isn’t just the latest ideas but the biblical principle of shepherding people.

When I was writing the book “Win with People,” I was reflecting on questions like these:

As leaders called to build the church, how do we return to that call we first felt when we were young?

How do we steward people who have more voices competing for their attention than ever?

How do we return to the original call of the shepherd—to take care of the flock?

Answering those questions with the perspective I have now is the core message of this book. And though the book is new, the content is what I’ve been building with since the beginning. It comes straight from my heart and experience—pastoring Milestone Church, helping churches across the country, and walking with teams day in and day out.

A Call Back to Biblical Leadership

The calling of a shepherd is a model rooted in relationship, built on proximity, and carried out with compassion and courage. Your role as a pastor is not to do all the ministry; it’s to equip the people to do the ministry.

So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up. Ephesians 4:11-12

This book will encourage and inspire you—but more than that, it’s practical. It’s a blueprint for creating a healthy, thriving ministry.

“Win with People” is a call back to the biblical foundation of leadership, where caring for people isn’t just a strategy—it’s the heart of the mission.

Here’s what you’ll find inside:

  • Why winning with people is the foundation of lasting ministry impact
  • How to embrace the call of a shepherd and lead with genuine care
  • Why shepherds smell like sheep—and how proximity leads to influence
  • How to create a culture where people feel seen, known, and loved
  • The practical ways your church can win with people and create a healthy, growing ministry
  • The most important challenge every shepherd must overcome
  • How to build and sustain a winning leadership team

Leadership for the Long Game

In a culture that often celebrates individual achievement and self-promotion, it’s easy to believe that leadership is about crossing the finish line first. But real success is measured by who you bring with you. At the end of the day: teams win championships.

If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together. Ministry is a team sport and the best flocks are led by teams of shepherds.
