Within a local church, the lead pastor’s ministry is the most visible to the public. Antithetically, the pastor’s wife’s ministry is the least seen. She may be visible, but her ministry often is not.

It’s not a boring vocation because the things church members say to pastors are just...hilarious. If you serve as a pastor or church staff member, there is rarely a boring moment.

Being a pastor is a much more difficult job than most people realize. It’s also a lot lonelier than most know. Most pastors could use a couple of good friends. 

Many times what may appear to us—or we may label as—a leadership style or personality is actually a leader’s personal battle—and sin—of pride. And pride is very dangerous.

Being a small church pastor isn’t my penalty for something I’ve done, or am doing wrong. It’s my specialty. My niche. And, since embracing it, it’s becoming an area of great joy and passion – even expertise.

Don’t get me wrong; most people in the church are friendly. Most people treat pastors with respect. But it can be hard to find true friends among those you’re charged to shepherd.

I’ve watched people in organizations – in government, business, nonprofits, and, sadly, far too often in the church — some leaders (people) simply stay too long. Leader, leave before you have to leave.
