Paul’s Prescription for Peace
Lucado turned to Philippians 4:4-7, which he noted is the most underlined passage on the Kindle Bible app:
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! … Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
According to Max Lucado, Paul’s words give three clear steps:
-
Trust God. Lasting peace comes from living in the Lord, not in our own strength.
-
Tell God. Prayer disarms the enemy and reminds us that God is in control.
-
Thank God. Gratitude and anxiety cannot coexist. Choosing thankfulness uproots fear and replants faith.
A Peace That Calms the Child
Lucado shared stories of people facing real storms—cancer diagnoses, widowhood, uncertain futures—yet experiencing God’s peace in powerful ways.
“No storm ever hit harder than the one in Gethsemane,” Lucado said. “God didn’t calm the storm, but He calmed His Son. And Jesus marched to Calvary in peace.”

Lucado closed with this reminder: “Just trust God, tell God, and thank God—and you will find a peace that passes all understanding.”
