Best-selling author and pastor Max Lucado recently shared a message titled When Your Heart Needs Peace at Gateway Church, reminding believers that while storms are inevitable, the Prince of Peace is always near.
Lucado encouraged listeners to remember that sometimes God calms the storm itself, but other times He calms His child in the middle of it.
God’s Peace in the Midst of Life’s Storms
Lucado began by recalling biblical stories where God intervened powerfully—parting the Red Sea for Moses, shutting the mouths of lions for Daniel, and opening prison doors for Paul and Silas.
“Sometimes God calms the storm,” Lucado said. “But other times He chooses to calm the child. Rather than remove the disease, He removes the fear. Rather than lift the debt, He lifts the doubt.”

He reminded the church that Jesus Himself slept during a violent storm on the Sea of Galilee, showing a peace that surpasses human understanding.
The Rising Tide of Anxiety
Pointing to recent statistics, Lucado highlighted what he called a “pandemic of anxiety.” Nearly half of U.S. adults report feeling more anxious in 2024 than the year before, and one-third of college students admit to feeling anxious almost all the time.
“Peace seems to have caught the last train out of Dodge,” Lucado said. “And it’s hard to find.”
Max Lucado acknowledged that many Christians struggle with fear and worry, but emphasized that Scripture offers a clear path forward.
