At its meeting this week in Nashville, the Executive Committee (EC) of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) will nominate newly retired Pastor Dan Summerlin to serve as its transitional interim president and CEO.

The 2023 annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC), which took place in New Orleans on June 13-14, has come to a close—but the decisions made during the meeting will have an ongoing impact. Among the most significant events from the week were those pertaining to women in church leadership. 

Baptist Women in Ministry, an advocacy group with historic ties to the SBC, has released an open letter of support to Baptist women in ministry leadership—particularly those who were recently put on a public list.

The Southern Baptist Convention's abuse hotline was meant as an interim measure, but until recently, very little was known about how it operated. That led one survivor and longtime abuse advocate to ask some pointed and uncomfortable questions about the hotline in an online publication.

The Unify Project is expected to launch Nov. 15 with widespread national participation, project co-chairman Ed Litton told Baptist Press.

It’s a worldwide center of all things Baptist, with Bibles from the 1600s, sermons from Southern Baptist leaders dating to 1846, periodicals spanning two centuries, and intimate collections from a diversity of leaders.

A pattern of trying to clarify the responsibilities of the Southern Baptist Convention's Credentials Committee has remained since the group was repurposed by messengers in 2019. 

The Biden administration should rescind its new rule that provides abortions in certain cases for military veterans and family members even in states with prohibitions on such procedures.
