For KING + COUNTRY’s Joel Smallbone (“Unsung Hero”) will join award-winning actors Ben Kingsley (“Schindler’s List,” “The King of Kings“) and Andy Serkis (“Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers,” “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” “Black Panther”) in the upcoming biopic “Young Washington.”
Directed by Wonder Project founder and “House of David” creator Jon Erwin (“Jesus Revolution,” “The Jesus Music,” “Woodlawn,” “I Can Only Imagine”), “Young Washington” is a film about America’s first president, George Washington.
According to the film’s synopsis, “Young Washington” tells the story of George Washington, an ambitious 22-year-old “who must face his failures and find the courage to become the leader that will forge a nation” following the nation’s “tremendous mistake that triggers the French and Indian War.”
“Young Washington” is scheduled to start production later this summer and will be released in theaters on the weekend of July 4, 2026.
“A Walk in the Woods” producer Chip Diggins will join Erwin in producing the film. 10 Ton Productions, led by Benton Crane, and 2521 Entertainment, led by Tyler Zacharia will also be joining Wonder Project on the production side of things. Angel Studios will theatrically distribute worldwide.
Erwin told TheWrap, “I’ve dreamed of telling the powerful origin story of George Washington for nearly a decade. It’s a story of a true pioneer, which makes it the perfect project to partner on with the pioneers at Angel and their world-class distribution network.”
“‘Young Washington’ isn’t just a film—it’s a celebration of the American spirit and the miracle of the forging of our nation,” he added.
