After completing the filming of “The Chosen” Season 6, cast and crew members shared what it was like to re-enact Jesus’ final hours and his crucifixion. In a recap video posted to YouTube, actors, production staff, and director Dallas Jenkins revealed their thoughts and emotions about a season they described as challenging yet sacred.

Filming for Season 6 of “The Chosen,” the record-breaking series about the life of Jesus, wrapped in mid-September. The episodes are scheduled for release in late 2026, with the Season 6 finale airing in theaters March 2027.

‘Saddest Season’ of ‘The Chosen’ Is Not the End

Season 6 of “The Chosen” involved the longest stretch of filming on the series so far. While describing their thoughts and feelings about creating those episodes, team members said it was “easily our hardest season” and there was “nothing comfortable about it.”

Shaan Sharma, who plays Shmuel, said, “It’s been really heavy in the sense of watching some of my co-actors go through some of the hardest emotional work they’ve had to do in the show yet.”

Another actor emphasized, “You’re not going to feel comfortable when you’re doing a very uncomfortable season.” Someone else pointed to the hope that’s coming in Season 7, with Jesus’ resurrection: “[Season 6] is probably the saddest season, which is good because it’s not the last.”

One challenge: During Season 5, most actors were usually together as they filmed the Last Supper. But loneliness and separation characterize Season 6. The absence of Jesus, John, and Judas in many of the episodes “kind of feels like a bad dream,” one actor explained.

Amid the tough subject material, actors praised the crew for their love and support. Everyone worked toward a greater goal, someone recalled. Another person said, “I really hope that the love shines through” in the final product.

“The talent is so abundant on this,” a crew member added. “I just hope that people see all the work people have done to lift these characters off the page, to make them more than parables, to make them more than fables, to make them beings…we can look at on screen and say, ‘That’s me.’”
