On Monday morning, Nov. 10, evangelist Alexander Wurm, founder of Ignite the Fire Ministry, and his 22-year-old daughter, Serena, were tragically killed in a plane crash while taking humanitarian aid to Jamaica—the Caribbean island that was pummeled by Hurricane Melissa last month. Alexander was 53.
According to its website, Ignite the Fire Ministry is “dedicated to empowering youth through missions and evangelism across the Caribbean. We aim to cultivate volunteers who are passionate about making a difference, fostering leadership and community involvement.”
The aircraft the Wurms were flying was a Beech B100. The plane crashed into a waterway in a residential area of Coral Springs, Florida, just minutes after it took off from Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport.
One resident said they heard a “boom” and saw debris everywhere. “It sounded to me like two race cars, then ‘boom,’ like a quick hit or explosion,” the resident said. “I looked up, and I saw, like, all this debris in the air. Like, it looked like somebody blew up a building, and it was just everywhere.”
Ignite the Fire Ministry released a statement, which read: “[We] mourn the tragic loss of our beloved brother, Alexander Wurm (53), and his daughter Serena (22), who passed away in a plane crash, this morning, November 10, 2025, while bringing humanitarian aid to Jamaica.”
“Alexander, known for his warmth and unwavering kindness, devoted his life to serving others—both through his actions and by sharing the gospel of Jesus across the globe,” the statement said. “Throughout his life, Alex travelled extensively, reaching various countries and continents, where he tirelessly worked to bring faith, compassion, and support to those in need. His legacy of faith and compassion touched countless lives.”
The statement continued:
There are not enough words to describe him. He wasn’t just a man of prayer—he lived it, fasting and listening for God’s voice like it was the most natural conversation. He gave so freely, not just of his time or money, but of his very self, always ready to lend an ear or a hand. As a teacher, he possessed an uncanny ability to break down the most brutal truths into something we could actually grasp. And beyond all the roles— Husband, father, friend, counsellor, mentor—he was the person we could be completely raw with, and he’d meet us there with grace and understanding. May his love and wisdom continue to echo through everything we do. Wurm and his wife, Candace, celebrated 23 years of marriage this past March. In addition to their oldest daughter Serena, the couple have Christina (20) and James (17).
Ignite the Fire Ministry said that Serena was following in her father’s footsteps and described her as a “beacon of empathy and hope” who inspired everyone “with her commitment to humanitarian work.”
