After scoring five touchdowns in a five-day span, New England running back TreVeyon Henderson proclaimed, “I can’t do it without Jesus.” During the Patriots’ 27-14 victory over the New York Jets on Thursday (Nov. 13), the rookie ran for two touchdowns and also caught a touchdown pass.
“I’ve just been staying patient, trusting in the Lord’s plan,” Henderson told reporter Kaylee Hartung. “Just continuing to do my part, and the rest I just leave up to him.” The athlete also expressed gratitude to God, adding, “I’m so weak without him, and I really mean this from the heart: I can’t do it without Jesus.”
Henderson became the third rookie in Patriots history to have a three-TD game and just their second rookie to score multiple rushing TDs in consecutive games. On Sunday, Nov. 9, Henderson ran for 147 yards against Tampa Bay and scored twice, going viral for his speed and quick thinking.
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson on ‘Seeking the Lord’
TreVeyon Henderson, 23, was the 38th pick in the 2025 draft. He won the national championship at Ohio State, where he helped lead a worship event and shared how Jesus had changed his life.
For the past three games, Henderson has been filling in for injured starter Rhamondre Stevenson. Until Sunday, Henderson had just one pro touchdown. His breakout performance helped New England win its eighth straight game, and the Pats now top the NFL with a 9-2 record.
On SportsCenter Thursday night, Scott Van Pelt asked Henderson how he prepared mentally for the starting role. “The biggest thing, most importantly, something that really helps me, you know, prepare for these games is just seeking the Lord,” replied the athlete. “Spending time in the Word, spending time in prayer.”
Next, Van Pelt asked how Henderson has stayed patient as a rookie and coped with such high expectations. “I think just trusting the Lord’s plan,” the running back answered. “Just knowing that he has a plan for me and [continuing] to do my part, coming to practice each and every day. Just trying to be the best that I can be and honor [God] with the work that I put in.”

During the interview, Henderson also praised his coach and credited the work of the Pats’ offensive line.
